The New York Times, Putnam Daily Voice and FiOS1 News have reported that the body discovered by New York State Police near the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Saturday, May 23, is that of 46-year-old Vincent Viafore. The reports cite “a State Police source,” although New York State Police had not issued an official statement as of 8:30 a.m. on May 25.

Viafore, a Poughkeepsie resident, went missing on April 19 after what was initially reported as a kayaking accident. His fiancée, 35-year-old Angelika Graswald, was subsequently arrested on April 29 and charged with his murder. She was indicted for second-degree murder on May 13 and remains in custody in the Orange County Jail with bail set at $3 million.

Viafore’s body was taken to the Orange County morgue where an autopsy was to be performed by the Orange County medical examiner.
