Alvin Bell, a longtime Beacon resident and barber, was feted for his 90th birthday on April 26 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie. The party, organized by his son, Alvin Jr., included performances by the Glory Boys of Jersey City, the Gospel Legends from South Carolina and the Rainbow Singers and the New Stars of Harmony from Poughkeepsie. Bell retired in 2022 after a fire destroyed his Main Street shop.
