WINNING GOURD — Tim Hetrick, who lives in Fishkill, poses with his winning field pumpkin from judging in August at the Dutchess County Fair. Hetrick also won first place for his white onions and second place for his garlic. STUDENTS OF MONTH — The Beacon Elks on Oct. 9 recognized three Haldane Middle School as students of the month for September. Students are nominated by their teachers based on academic achievement, leadership abilities, helping fellow students and, in some cases, overcoming obstacles.
