Governor visits Philipstown to announce station fixes

Gov. Kathy Hochul visited the Metro-North station at Garrison on Wednesday (Dec. 11) to announce the completion of upgrades to its platforms, staircases, railings, tactile strips, expansion joints and foundations, and to celebrate other Metropolitan Transportation Authority achievements in 2024.

She was joined by Neal Zuckerman, a Philipstown resident who serves on the MTA board, MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber and elected officials from Putnam County, Philipstown, Cold Spring, Nelsonville and Beacon. The MTA said it plans next to install security cameras.

At the Wednesday night meeting of the Cold Spring Village Board, Mayor Kathleen Foley, who attended the news conference, said she was was hopeful that the MTA will include improvements at the Cold Spring platform in its next five-year capital plan. She also said she was encouraged by comments from the governor and MTA about rising river levels and climate-change planning. “It was the first time I’ve seen MTA and Metro-North robustly talking about it,” she said.
