Local woman charged

A report from the North Highlands Fire Department of a suspicious fire alarm alert in mid-April resulted in the arrest of a Philipstown resident, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department announced last Friday evening (April 24).

According to a news release from Sheriff Donald Smith, around 1 p.m. on April 15, Deputy Sheriff Matthew Monroe responded to a complaint from the fire department of the false activation of a fire alarm at 345 Route 301. The deputy sheriff investigated, determined that the fire alarm had been deliberately and falsely set off, and arrested a suspect, subsequently identified by the Sheriff’s Department as Daisy Reyes, age 54, of the Route 301 address.

Ms. Reyes was charged with falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor, and processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility, before an expected arraignment.

If found guilty, she faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 according to the Sheriff’s Department.
