State police recover body of apparent suicide

The New York State Police have reported that a 31-year-old man jumped off the Beacon-Newburgh Bridge last night (Feb. 8) in an apparent suicide. A Good Samaritan contacted police around 8 p.m. when he discovered an unoccupied 2013 Volkswagen Jetta stopped in the westbound lane of the bridge with hazard lights flashing.

Police said that the body of Anthony M. Sinishtaj of Stormville, New York, was found in the frozen Hudson River by a team of police divers. The Town of Fishkill Police and the Beacon Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
