Seven months after a Christmas Eve fire destroyed the Nelsonville home of Bob and Astrid Harrison at 240 Main Street, demolition of what remains of the structure has begun. The fire shocked the community and raised questions regarding water pressure at hydrants in that area and zoning which permitted construction of the large home.
The property is unusual in that it lies partly in Nelsonville and partly in Cold Spring. Ron Gainer, a professional engineer, has recently recommended to the Village of Cold Spring that much of the water system, originally installed in the late 1800s, be cleaned out and relined in order to improve water flows. The Village of Cold Spring operates the system which also supplies water to Nelsonville.
