Historian to Speak on ‘Newburgh’s Talented Son’

Hudson Valley historian Matthew Colon will speak at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the monthly meeting of the Beacon Historical Society, on Andrew Jackson Downing, the horticulturalist, architect and writer who had a great influence on American culture in the mid-19th century with his books on landscape gardening and home design.

Colon, who is director of the Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands, will explore the career and life of “Newburgh’s talented son.”

The Beacon Historical Society meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month (except in January and February) at the Howland Cultural Center at 477 Main St. For more information visit beaconhistorical.org.
