Children also can play at the Outdoor Discovery Center’s Grasshopper Grove. Drop-in sessions are available if there is space. Call 845-534-5506 ext. 204, or go to hhnm.org. The cost varies based on how many days a week the child participates.

On Sunday, Jan. 8, the museum will offer a program at 10 a.m. to identify traces that wildlife leave. Led by environmental educator Carl Heitmuller, participants will learn how to read the landscape, including rubs, scrapes, footprints, nests and scat. The program is appropriate for children ages 3 years and older. Admission is $3 or $7 and includes a viewing of Fun Feet, a movie about how animals use their feet.
