Chuck Morgan (1935-2017)

Charles R. Morgan, 82, of Poughkeepsie, died on Nov. 10, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his family. His survivors include his two children, both of whom are Beacon residents.

Chuck was born in New York City on Feb. 7, 1935, the son of Thomas C. and Cassie (Fain) Morgan. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School and CCNY before serving in the U.S. Army. He was an electrical engineer who began with General Electric in Schenectady but spent most of his career with IBM in Fishkill and Poughkeepsie before retiring.

Chuck was incredibly witty and all who knew him appreciated the unique perspective he brought to any conversation. He was a voracious reader, ever ready to learn more about the world. He enjoyed gadgets, football and the Giants, bad TV and cool jazz. He loved his family and friends. His inquisitive and practical nature found value in the most mundane things, which taught those who knew him to always appreciate the details in life that all too often go unnoticed.

His survivors include his children Douglas Morgan and Elena Morgan, both of Beacon, and his former wife, Maria Morgan of Fishkill.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., in Poughkeepsie on Nov. 18 from 3 to 6 p.m. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice (hvhospice.org).

Janice Peterson (1945-2017)

Janice C. Peterson, 72, of Beacon and formerly of Manhattan, died of cancer on Nov. 9, 2017.

Janice was born Sept. 6, 1945, in Wappingers Falls to John and Charlotte (Montfort) Henderson. She graduated from Roy C. Ketcham High School in 1963 and attended Dutchess Community College before working in pharmaceutical retail in Manhattan. She married Carlton Peterson, who died in 2011.

Janice was a voracious reader, a faithful QVC shopper and a lover of books and all types of music. She loved clothes and was always stylishly dressed.

Janice is survived by a brother, Robert J. Henderson (Jeanine); Susan Peterson; and two nephews, Bryan Henderson and Eric Henderson (fiancée Tiffany Eames). A memorial visitation will be held Nov. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave., in Beacon.

Michael Seeley

Michael Seeley (1917-2017)

Michael A. Seeley, 100, a longtime resident of Beacon, died Nov. 13, 2017.

Michael was born on Aug. 3, 1917, in Brockway, Fishkill, the son of Michael and Edna (Crusie) Seeley. He married Evelyn Chrinian, who died in 2001, and Hilda Leyman, who died in 2006.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a member of the 84th Infantry Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He also received a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat.

Michael worked in the Brockway Brickyard with his father and then at Texaco Research Center in Glenham. He was a longtime member of the Slater Chemical Fire Company in Glenham and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and faithfully attended Army reunions.

He is survived by his children: Lorraine Zeiss, Terrance Seeley, Michelle Cioffi and Barbara Powlis; and his grandchildren: John Zeiss, Jeffrey Zeiss, Stephanie Dunckley, Angela Cioffi, Joseph Cioffi, Jeffrey Powlis Jr. and Danielle Powlis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow St., in Beacon, followed by burial with military honors at St. Joachim Cemetery, 325 Washington Ave.
