Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley Jr. has appointed Harry Tompkins III as his captain of patrol. During his 28-year career, Tompkins has served with the New York City Housing Police Department and departments in Putnam Valley, Larchmont and Westchester County.
As a detective, Tompkins oversaw the Northern Westchester Narcotics Heroin Task Force. He succeeds Capt. Edward Swarm, who resigned Feb. 1, six weeks after his appointment, citing personal reasons.
