Margaret Atkinson (1921-2018)

Margaret Atkinson, 97, a former resident of Fishkill and Beacon before moving to Florida in 2014, died at the Brookdale Senior Living Center in Tarpon Springs on June 10, 2018.

Born in Lancaster, England, on Feb. 25, 1921, she was the daughter of Henry and Maggie (Stephenson) Thompson. During World War II, she served in the British military.

In 1952 she married Robert W. Atkinson in Port Chester. He died in 1989. The couple lived in Beacon until the early 1970s, when they moving to Old Post Mall in Fishkill.

For many years, Margaret worked for the W.T. Grant Department Store in Beacon. Following her retirement, she worked for a jeweler in Beacon and also spent many years as a volunteer for Nifty Thrifty in Fishkill. In addition to her volunteer work, Margaret was a busy and talented knitter and crocheter and did a variety of needle work that her family and friends are proud to have.

She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Butterworth and Marina Smith, who both live in England, and a brother-in-law, Donald Atkinson (Phyllis) of Tarpon Springs.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 16, at Fishkill Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to any charity, particularly if it benefits children.

Phoebe Jackson (1934-2018)

Phoebe M. Jackson, 84, a longtime Beacon resident, died June 10, 2018, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

Phoebe was born in Fishkill on Feb. 6, 1934, the daughter of Elijah DeWitt and Daisey (Daniels) Smith. She married Frank E. Jackson in 1957 at St. Joachim’s Church in Beacon. He died in 2015.

Before Frank and Phoebe started their family, she worked as a dental assistant and at the NY Rubber Co.  She took pride in being a wife and mother.

Phoebe is survived by her son, Francis E. Jackson of Beacon. Funeral services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association (heart.org) or the American Kidney Fund (kidneyfund.org).

Olga Moses

Olga Moses

Olga A. Moses, 103, a former Beacon resident, died June 11, 2018. She married Anthony Moses, who died before her.

Born in Beacon, she moved to Canton, Ohio, in 1946, where she owned Moses Grocery and worked at Burger King for 20 years, from 1976 to 1996. She was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church and the Lebanese American Club. She was known to friends and family as “Aunt Olga.”

She is survived by her sister, Dolores Beshara, a Sister of Mercy in Bristol, Connecticut, as well as five nieces and three nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 18 in Canton. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).

James Resko (1947-2018)

James Steven Resko, 71 a longtime Beacon resident, died June 7, 2018, at his home.

Born in Yonkers on Jan. 7, 1947, he was the son of Stephen and Mark Resko. He worked as a postal clerk for the U.S. Post Office in Harrison.

James is survived by his wife, Gail Resko, and a daughter, Jennifer Melito. Funeral services will be private.
