Ronnie Miller

Ronald William Miller, 62, of Beacon, died of cancer of Sept. 20, 2019.

In December, Ronnie retired as a postal carrier after 35 years. He loved gardening, taking his dog, Gracey, for walks, and decorating the family home for the holidays. Ronnie was also a Giants and Mets fan.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lori (Slater) Miller; his children, Renee and Sean; and two grandchildren, Brandon and Adrianna.

He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Snyder and Marilyn Santini; a brother, Robert Miller; and his sisters-in-law, Cheryl Blanks and Kim Slater.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the McHoul Funeral Home, 1089 Main St., in Fishkill, followed by interment on Sept. 25 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.

Bill Penn (1935-2019)

William R. Penn, 84, of Newburgh, and formerly a longtime resident of Beacon and Wappingers Falls, died Sept. 22, 2019, at his home.

Born July 3, 1935, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of William and Alice (Hill) Penn. He served in the U.S. Navy until 1956 and went on to work with the City of Beacon Police Department, where he was the first officer to patrol on a motorcycle. He retired as a lieutenant after 37 years with the force.

Bill attended St. Andrew’s Church in Beacon and was a Prince Hall Master Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and National Rifle Association.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed photography. In his younger years, he loved to ski. He was proud of his small craft pilot’s license and his Harley Davidsons. He also collected guns and was especially interested in black powder guns. Most of all, his family said, he will be remembered as a great conversationalist.

He was known as “Uncle B” to his nephews, Jesse Ware Jr. (Cherish Alicia Ware-Lawrence), Duane Ware (Alicia), William Ware (Malinda) and Dale Ware, all of Newburgh, Carl DuBose (Regina) of Seattle, Sherman Hargrove and Ricky Jackson (Adrian) of Schenectady, Dale Briggs (Towarrenda) of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Tyrone Mayo of Sleepy Hollow, Theodore Page (Dorthy) of Newburgh, and Matthew Ware of Marion, Arkansas; and nieces, Jessie Mae Ware Sefa (Robert) of Chicago and Carlotta Muse of Newburgh.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main St., in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
