Dean Mogan (1953-2020)

Dean P. Mogan, 66, of Wappingers Falls, died on Nov. 11 of cancer at his home, surrounded by family members.

Born in Beacon on Nov. 23, 1953, he was the son of Roger and Kathryn (Fabysack) Mogan. He grew up in Fishkill and graduated from John Jay High School before earning a bachelor’s degree from Marist College.

Dean was a state corrections officer until his retirement. He enjoyed golf and bowling and coaching his daughter’s softball team. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Aug. 5, 1995, on a boat in Kingston, Dean married Stephanie Horn Mogan.

Along with his wife, he is survived by children, Aimee Mogan of Wappingers Falls and Danielle Kozak of Fishkill; his grandchildren, Alexis Galarza, Destiny and Madison Kozak, and Bryson and Aiden Scott; his siblings Carol Roesslein (Fred) Roesslein of Cold Spring, Kelly Meyer (Fred) of Brookfield, Illinois, and Roger Mogan (Jane) of Brewster. He also is survived by his mother-in-law, Catherine Horn, and his sister-in-law, Andrea Fitzgerald.

A funeral service will be held Nov. 21. Memorial donations may be made to the Hudson Valley SPCA.

Thomas Scianna (1995-2020)

Thomas J. Scianna, 25, of Beacon, died on Nov. 7.

He was born in Poughkeepsie on June 14, 1995, the son of Thomas Scianna and Michele Fasce. A graduate of Roy C. Ketcham High School, he was employed as a truck driver and also worked at Valvoline in Wappingers Falls. He enjoyed video game tournaments and baseball.

Besides his parents, who live in Beacon, he is survived by his daughter, Chelsea Scianna; and his siblings, Kyra-Lee Scianna and Michael Scianna, all of Beacon. He is also survived by his grandmother, Barbara Fasce of Hopewell Junction; and his niece, Brynn-Lee Scianna.

A service was held on Nov. 13 at the Delehanty Funeral Home in Wappingers Falls.

Kathie Spaight (1949-2020)

Kathleen M. Spaight, 70, died Oct. 15 at the Schervier Pavilion in Warwick. For the past 12 years she was a nurse at the Fishkill Correctional Facility in Beacon.

Born on Nov. 24, 1949 in Goshen, she was the daughter of John and Kathleen (Morris) Spaight. She graduated from John S. Burke High School in Goshen and Caldwell College in Caldwell, New Jersey, before earning her nursing degree at Rockland Community College in Suffern. She worked at various nursing homes before becoming an RN at the correctional facility.

She is survived by her siblings: Patricia Viscardo (Salvatore) of Monroe; John Spaight (Marti) of Norman, Oklahoma; and Ed Spaight (Peggy) of Plantation, Florida. Memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA (aspca.org/donate).
