Connected to theft of chainsaws

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith has reported the arrest of 26 year-old Philipstown resident Robert E. Philips on burglary charges for the alleged theft of two chain saws. On May 25, 2011 another Philipstown resident reported a break-in and the theft of two chain saws. Philips was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 11 on charges of burglary in the second degree, which is a class C felony. According to the Sheriff, an investigation found that Philips sold the chainsaws to another party in Beacon. He was arraigned before Philipstown Town Justice Stephen Tomann and remanded to jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. If convicted, Philips may be sentenced to a jail term of up to 15 years. One of the chain saws has been recovered.
