Barbara Scuccimarra

Scuccimarra worked to raise age to buy tobacco

The American Heart Association will honor former Putnam County Legislator Barbara Scuccimarra during its annual Putnam Heart Walk on Sunday, April 28, at Brewster High School.

The nonprofit will recognize Scuccimarra for her work last year passing a county law that raised the age to buy tobacco and vaping products from 18 to 21. Orange, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties have passed similar legislation and some lawmakers have called for a statewide law.

The Garrison resident was a member of the Philipstown Town Board before being elected to the county Legislature in 2012.
