Residents and businesses should fill containers with water beforehand

The Cold Spring Village Office announced May 21 that the water supply to most of the lower half of the village will be interrupted on Tuesday, May 28 at 9 a.m. The affected areas are all streets west of High Street, including Main, Church, Northern, Garden, Fair, Stone, Cross and Rock Streets, Kemble Avenue, the Boulevard, Constitution Drive and Forge Gate, as well as all streets west of the Metro-North Railroad tracks. It is anticipated that the service interruption will last between one and two hours.

“With the 10-inch water main out of service for the cleaning and lining project, Northern Avenue has been the main conduit for the potable supply,” stated Water Superintendent Greg Phillips. The project has reached a point where the failed valve on Northern Avenue at Church Street has created an impasse. The valve’s operating stem is broken with the valve in the closed position, and it needs to be replaced so that the project can continue below High Street, according to Phillips.

It is recommended that residents and businesses alike fill containers and/or pots with water prior to the shutdown so that the inconvenience is minimized. There will undoubtedly be a period of discoloration when service is restored. Water Department personnel will be utilizing low-flow flushing devices to aid in clearing the system.
