Arrested for breaking a window on ex-wife’s car

Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a Cold Spring man on a felony charge of criminal mischief.

On June 19, at approximately 11 a.m., Joseph E. Palmer, 27, of 534 Fishkill Road, Cold Spring, was arrested by Deputy Sheriff Brian Aisenstat and charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, a felony. Upon receiving a complaint from Palmer’s ex-wife, the deputy had conducted an investigation that revealed that on June 19 at approximately 8:50 a.m., Palmer used a rock to smash a rear passenger window of his ex-wife’s car in the parking lot of the Sunoco station on Main Street in the Village of Cold Spring.

The incident was captured on the store surveillance video. Palmer was processed at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Nelsonville Substation and subsequently arraigned before Village of Cold Spring Justice Thomas Costello. The defendant was committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond pending a July 8 court appearance.

If found guilty of the felony charge, the defendant could face up to four years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $5,000.
