Accused of misappropriating funds

Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the executive director of the Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce on March 21 after accusations she misappropriated funds from the organization.

Erin E. Meagher, 26, of Brewster, was charged with felony grand larceny and released. She is scheduled to appear in the Town of Carmel Justice Court on April 11.

In a statement, Chamber officials said Meagher, who is also a member of the Brewster Village Board, has been fired due to “evidence of larceny, fraud and embezzlement being uncovered by the chamber’s executive board volunteers.”

The organization, which has 390 members, accused Meagher of using a Chamber debit card “as her personal slush fund to purchase her wardrobe including jewelry, dresses, Stitch Fix personal styling services, Kate Spade handbags and Ivanka Trump shoes…. She even flaunted her ill-gotten apparel at Chamber and community events and fabricated false and fraudulent invoices from Amazon in an attempt to deceive the board of directors.”
