Shiela Brown (1957-2017)
Shiela Marie Brown, 60, a lifelong resident of Beacon, died May 28, 2017, at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.
Shiela was born in Newburgh on Feb. 4, 1957, the daughter of James H. Jr. and Mary (Miles) Brown. She received her education through the Beacon City School District and was employed by Wappingers Central School District as a bus driver for 30 years. Shiela was also employed by IBM, and worked at the family businesses that were owned by her parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Donnyia Thompson (Franklin) of Beacon; three brothers, James H. Brown III (Rebecca), Gary Brown and Michael Brown, all of Beacon; four grandsons: Dayi’on, Michai, Frankie and Jalen Thompson; her sister-in-law Audrey Anderson; and four goddaughters.
A memorial service was held on June 5 at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Beacon.

Joan Devereaux
Joan Devereaux (1935-2017)
Joan Marie Devereaux, 81, of Beacon, died June 1, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh.
Born Oct. 20, 1935, to Nicholas and Mary Devereaux. She married Anthony Frisina and, after raising her children, became a Vista volunteer and director of volunteer services and media coordinator at Bedford Hills prison and later Sing Sing. While at Bedford, Joan established a help fund that provided the women with items not provided by the state. The fund is named after her.

Mary Farley
Mary Farley (1911-2017)
Mary was born in Beacon on May 18, 1911, one of 10 children of Michael and Margaret (McNamara), both immigrants from Ireland. She and her siblings were raised in Beacon. She married Jack Farley atop Mount Beacon.Mary is survived by her son-in-law, Tony DiLeo; her daughter-in-law, Loretta Buttimer; and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She outlived her husband and children — Peter Farley and Susan Farley DiLeo — as well as her nine siblings: Helen Coughlin Clark (Joseph); James (Dyke) Coughlin (Bessie Feeney); Joseph Coughlin; Leonard (Lon) Coughlin (Grace LeMunyan); Charles (Abe) Coughlin (Katherine MacMaster); George Coughlin (Elizabeth Lahey); John (Jack) Coughlin (Harriet Hyatt); Robert Coughlin (Ann Fleming); and Margaret Coughlin (Mike McElduff).
