Barbara Ann Daddario (1938-2019)

Barbara Ann Daddario, 80, a lifelong Beacon resident, died May 26, 2019, at the Hudson Valley Rehabilitation & Extended Care Center in Highland.

She was born June 23, 1938, in Beacon, daughter of Louis and Mildred (Lucas) Daddario. She graduated from Beacon High School in 1956.

Barbara was an active communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon and certified by the Archdiocese of New York as a Catechist. She loved teaching the faith to the parish youth and taught the confirmation class for 10 years. She also enjoyed assisting at St. John’s as an adult altar server.

Barbara was a member of the Junior League, as well as the Tioronda Garden Club of Beacon for 14 years and served as its treasurer. Barbara had a deep love for history and was a charter member of the Beacon Historical Society. She was an avid reader, and as a youth read five books a week. She was a a member of the Friends of the Howland Public Library and of the Howland Cultural Center.

Barbara worked for many years as a bookkeeper; first for Hoffman Ford and then, after she finished business school, for the Beacon Housing Authority. She worked in public housing for 25 years, until her retirement in 2001.

She is survived by her sister, Jean Haight (Robert) of Beacon; two nieces, Mysia Hoogsteden (Henry) and Marci Keck (Mark); and Diane Haight, the widow of her nephew Tal Haight, who died in 2014. She is also survived by her great nieces and nephews: Hayden Keck, Ryan Haight, Morgan Stalter (Tyler) and Lucero Hoogsteden.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave., in Beacon. A procession will follow to St. John the Evangelist Church, 31 Willow St., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. followed by interment at St. Joachim Cemetery.

Tony Fontanez

Tony Fontanez (1963-2019)

Anthony Fontanez, 55, a resident of Beacon and formerly of Tampa, Florida, died May 29, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh.

Tony was born in Brooklyn on Dec. 29, 1963, the son of Carmen Santiago and Antonio Fontanez. He worked as a HVAC technician in Tampa before he was forced to retire due to illness. He was a member of the Tabernacle of Christ Church in Beacon.

In addition to his mother, Tony is survived by his children, Anthony, Talia, Tiffany and Marissa; his siblings, Teresa, Jose, Yolanda, Carmen Denise and Jose Enrique; and several grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather on Sunday, June 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Tabernacle of Christ Church, 483 Main St., in Beacon. A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).

Catherine Odabashian

Catherine Odabashian (1927-2019)

Catherine Odabashian, 91, of Fishkill, died May 22, 2019, at home, surrounded by her family.

Catherine was born Oct. 11, 1927, to Ralph and Natalia in Jersey City, New Jersey. She married Charles Odabashian on Sept. 25, 1948, in New York City. The young couple loved coming to the Hudson Valley to visit relatives and eventually built a home here. Catherine loved to sew and worked at Beacon Looms for many years.

Catherine loved to travel, watch old movies and cook for her family. Her favorite place to be was on the back porch in her rocking chair with her cake and coffee listening to the oldies. She loved to tell stories and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan DiCastro (William); her granddaughters, Gina Bauer and Ann Marie DiCastro; her great-granddaughters, Victoria Bauer and Samantha Bauer; and a longtime friend, Irmagard DiCastro and her son, Drew DiCastro.

Nelson Rivera

Nelson Rivera (1949-2018)

Nelson Rivera, 70, a longtime Beacon resident, and recently of Willimantic, Connecticut, died May 28, 2019.

He was born on March 26, 1949 in Añasco, Puerto Rico, the son of Vidal and Amparo (Osuba) Rivera. Nelson worked for many years as a laborer.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Rodrigues, and his six children: Oneida Rivera, Nelson Rivera Jr., Marisol Rivera, William Rivera, Madeline Rivera and Nayely Rivera. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Libby Funeral Home, 55 Teller Ave., in Beacon. A funeral service will be held at noon, followed by interment at St. Joachim Cemetery.
