Monse Bayon (1934-2019)
Monserrate Bayon, 85, of Beacon, died Sept. 29, 2019.
Known as “Monse” by her friends and family, she was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Anasco, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Emiliano Aquino and Juana Morales. As a teenager she moved to New York, where she met the man who became her husband, Jose Bayon. They were married on June 21, 1958. He died in 1968.
Her family says Monse was a strong and determined woman and a devoted member of the Tabernacle of Christ Church in Beacon. She cherished her relationships with all in her parish, especially her friend, Dinora DeJesus.
Monserrate is survived by her children, Michael Bayon and his children, Michael Bayon Jr. (Kathrine) and Zachary Bayon; Milagros Grossman (David) and their children, Shana Grossman (Shaun Lippard) and Brandon Grossman (Kelsey Lane); and Jose Bayon Jr. (Myrna) and his children, Tasha Bayon, Devon Bayon (Shanice) and Dylan Bayon. She also is survived by her great-grandchildren, Sophia, Isabella and Jaxon; and six siblings.
A funeral service was held on Oct. 2 at the Tabernacle of Christ Church, with burial to follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.
Patricia O’Toole (1942-2019)
Patricia O’Toole, 77, of Glenham, died Sept. 29, 2019, at NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital.
She was born May 1, 1942, in Beacon, the daughter of Patrick and Helen (Baxter) D’Amato.
Patricia is survived by her husband, John O’Toole, and her children, James Martin, Michael Wolfe (Paula) and Charles Wiley (Denise), as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Kenneth D’Amato (Marie), Candy Whiteman (Kenneth), JoAnn Sgorbissa and John Sgorbissa (Peg), and a cousin, Maria Greenert.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, at noon at Cold Spring Cemetery.
Betty Van Tassel (1932-2019)
Elizabeth “Betty” A. Van Tassel, 87, a longtime Beacon resident, died Sept. 29, 2019, surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 13, 1932, in Staten Island. On Oct. 7, 1950, in Cold Spring, she married Samuel Van Tassel, who died in 2008.
Betty worked for many years as a nurses’ aide in Beacon and later in private home health care. She enjoyed watching parades, visiting casinos and bowling.
She is survived by her children: Samuel Van Tassel Jr. (Yvonne), John Van Tassel (Chris), Gary Van Tassel (Joanne), David Van Tassel (Debbie), Debra Congdon (David), Elizabeth Warren (Eric) and Lisa MacNary (Dave). She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Marie and Linda.
A prayer service was offered on Oct. 2 at Libby Funeral Home in Beacon. A private interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter (alz.org/hudsonvalley) or the Beacon Engine Co. No 1, 57 E. Main St., Beacon, NY 12508.
